Florida Real Estate License Reactivation: 14 Hours vs. 28 Hours
An involuntarily inactive Florida real estate license can follow different education paths depending on how long it has been inactive and whether the missed deadline was your first renewal. Start with your actual license record before buying a course.

QUICK ANSWER
The clock matters: 12 months or less can be different from more than 12 months.
Florida Statute 475.183 provides at least 14 hours of prescribed continuing education for an involuntarily inactive license of 12 months or less, and 28 hours of prescribed reactivation education when the license has been involuntarily inactive for more than 12 months but fewer than 24 months. Other renewal requirements still apply.

At least 14 hours of prescribed continuing education
Florida Statute 475.183 provides that a license involuntarily inactive for 12 months or less may be reactivated after completing at least 14 hours of Commission-prescribed continuing education, along with the other applicable renewal requirements.
More than 12, fewer than 24 months
28-hour reactivation education
For an involuntarily inactive license beyond 12 months but still under 24 months, Florida law provides for 28 hours of Commission-prescribed reactivation education, along with the other applicable renewal requirements.
More than 2 years
The standard reactivation window has ended
Florida law provides that a license involuntarily inactive for more than two years automatically expires and becomes null and void. A separate hardship process may exist in qualifying circumstances, so contact DBPR before purchasing education.
FIRST RENEWAL IS DIFFERENT
Do not use the normal reactivation path if the missed deadline was your first renewal without checking first.
Florida sales associates generally need 45 hours of post-license education for the first renewal, while brokers and broker associates generally need 60 hours. Missing the required first-renewal post-license education can result in a null-and-void license rather than the normal continuing-education reactivation path.
A licensee may still need to complete DBPR renewal steps, pay required fees, and satisfy any other requirements shown on the live license record. Verify the record directly with DBPR before relying on a course purchase as the complete solution.
Is every involuntarily inactive Florida license a 28-hour course?
Not necessarily. Florida Statute 475.183 distinguishes between licenses involuntarily inactive for 12 months or less and those inactive for more than 12 months but fewer than 24 months. Your exact status, dates, renewal history, fees, and other requirements matter.
What if this was my first renewal?
First-renewal post-license requirements are different from a normal continuing-education lapse. A Florida sales associate who misses the required 45-hour post-license education by the initial expiration can become null and void. Brokers also have a separate first-renewal post-license requirement. Verify with DBPR before buying a reactivation course.
Does completing the education automatically reactivate my license?
No. Education is only one part of the process. You may also have renewal fees, application or account steps, and other DBPR requirements. Confirm your live record and complete every required step by the applicable deadline.
Can Greyson tell me which path most likely applies?
Greyson's Find My Path tool uses available Florida license records and your renewal-history answer to identify the likely education path. It is guidance, not a DBPR determination, so always verify the live record before purchasing education.
